Ignite Hubs is a charitable organisation that is run and led by volunteers. We are looking to pioneer innovative and exciting ways for children and young people to learn.

What will you be doing?

Our vision is to nurture and enrich young minds to explore, grow and learn. We seek to equip each child or young person with the tools and skills to be successful in school and life.

We aim to

  • Create the best learning environment for children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities, particularly
    • Girls
    • Children and young people that have special educational needs and disabilities
    • Children and young people from disadvantaged or vulnerable backgrounds
  • To support, develop and empower young people into work.
  • Value, support and develop our volunteers and help them realise their potential and aspirations.
  • Build a better community and bring people together.

We plan to offer classes, workshops and events to children and young people on a wide variety of subjects such as coding, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), enterprise, creativity & innovation and health & wellbeing.

We hope you will join our mission to create innovative and engaging Hubs and help us roll them out across the country.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Editor to oversee and edit the Comms Teams outputs. These include webpages, marketing material, reports, posters, blogs, social media posts, campaigns and whitepapers.

You will be working with members of the leadership team, Marketing Manager and the Insight & Analytics team to devise and shape the content strategy and plan.

You will be expected to

  • Devise content ideas and develop and form our brand voice.
  • Proofread and edit content to ensure everything is fit for purpose before publication.
  • Draft content as well as synthesising content authored by others.
  • Manage a team of writers internally and externally.
  • Coach and support the development of our Young Writer’s Club and the magazine they will be producing.

Must– haves

  • Significant writing and editorial experience
  • A flawless standard of written English
  • A keen editorial eye
  • Provide examples of published content
  • Management experience

Nice– to– haves

  • A knowledge of copywriting best practice for SEO
  • An understanding/interest to write about topics under our five Hubs; Code, STEM, Enterprise, Innovation & Creativity and Health & Wellbeing (or at least the ability to write intelligently about it).

In the pipeline we have other creative projects such as our animation, podcast and children’s career book series.

The role is flexible and the time commitment expected is around 4 hours a week. Please only apply if have regular time available and are looking to be part of an organisation for the long– term.

You will be joining a fast– growing organisation of over 50 volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and skill sets. There are lots of opportunities for you to shape and grow your role and gain skills in other areas.
