About This Role

Cars.com’s Editorial department is passionate about helping car shoppers find the right car for their life. That means we dive into the details to demystify not only cars and car shopping but also car ownership. Cars.com’s Editorial team empowers consumers to make all automotive purchase and ownership decisions through unbiased and trusted expert content.

As the Senior Road Test Editor at Cars.com, you’ll work with the best automotive journalists in the business (we’re biased, of course). You’ll assign and edit evaluative content created from Cars.com’s test fleets. You’ll project manage Editorial’s comparison tests that use hands– on testing to find the best vehicle in a class. Using your deep automotive knowledge, you’ll also write articles and car reviews that inform and educate car shoppers.

The Senior Road Test Editor must have the ability to define and solve problems, manage multiple projects, and pivot when priorities change. This person must be able to work cross– functionally with teams outside of Editorial. Also, this person must be able to complete projects on time or communicate otherwise. This position is based in Chicago and at this time, is a hybrid position with flexibility between working from home and Cars.com office workspaces. Heavy computer use is part of the job. Some travel will be required.

• Assign and edit the evaluative content created from Cars.com’s test fleets
• Identify, plan and project manage comparison testing opportunities
• Use deep automotive knowledge to craft vehicle testing opportunities
• Execute on Editorial content strategy, working closely with managing editor and editor– in– chief to hone in on growth opportunities.
• Determine which vehicles Cars.com reviews
• Work cross– functionally within Cars.com to create and execute on cohesive content plans.
• Experienced car reviewer
• Comfortable appearing in video as needed
• Comfortable test– driving vehicles on a racetrack
• Some travel should be expected

About You

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Communications
• 7 or more years in automotive journalism or automotive industry experience
• Experience managing direct reports or a major project
• Self– starter with a strong sense of ownership and ability to prioritize work within a complex, fast– paced environment
• Hands– on experience with a variety of vehicles, including pickup truck, performance cars and electric vehicles
• Experience creating SEO– driven content
• Basic knowledge of HTML and strong familiarity with content management systems (i.e. WordPress, AEM or similar)
• Basic knowledge of SEO

Preferred

• Familiarity with Adobe Analytics and/or Google Analytics
• Familiarity with Racelogic testing equipment
