Job Summary
DESCRIPTION
Alexa is Amazon’s voice– first AI present in over 100 million Alexa– enabled devices. As devices continue to integrate more deeply into our lives, Alexa Human Effects (HFX) seeks to raise the bar of what is considered a compelling customer experience. We are a paradigm– changing, generative practice that investigates intrinsic anatomical, biomechanical, neurological, perceptual, and cultural parameters, and codifies this intelligence into Alexa hardware, software, and wetware. As the first Sr. Generative Designer within the Alexa Human Effects team, you will blur the line between the physical and virtual, and bring tangibility to the work you lead. You will use, maintain and explore practical applications for generative design in the Alexa Devices product development process. Your creativity flourishes in situations of ambiguity, where there is no answer, let alone a ‘right’ answer. You scope a question– space, and then expand the realm of inquiry further as you test approaches, methods, tools, and techniques.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you always start by considering how to render visible, the seemingly invisible. You will undertake speculative and generative hardware experimentation for 2D/3D/4D scanning of amorphous anatomical forms (including sub– dermal features of interest), software experimentation for audio, visual and haptics with mathematical accuracy + parametric fidelity, and automation experimentation across both hardware (e.g. motion + interaction + experience) and software (e.g. data capture + cleaning + digestion). This foundational work, alongside your novel insights, will be encoded into our generative design software.
As far as tech specs: you have equal adoration for hardware and software, and recognize they are most powerful when conceived in the same frame of reference. You have experience executing real– time data visualization not only for the purposes of improving the organization and interpretability of data streams, but to materialize nonlinear understanding. You know what frameworks and libraries to use, when to use them, and when not to use them. You are well– versed in a variety of 3D software + tools (from animation to procedural to mechanical) and find excuses to push their limits far beyond prevailing formulas.
