SCOPE

The Field Editor serves as a member of the Engagement Team within the US Library Sales department. This role is responsible for outreach, training, advocacy, market intelligence, and sales support to faculty (and other customers) in North America for the full SAGE portfolio. The emphasis will be demonstrating impactful faculty outreach and engagement that drives library sales efforts in achieving new and renewal goals. This role provides support to customers who have purchased or subscribed, or might purchase or subscribe to SAGE resources, with the goals of creating faculty advocates and developing new opportunities. Primarily responsible for working and traveling in the Mid-West, West, and western Canada territories.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver impactful in-person and online outreach and trainings demonstrating an understanding of the products and an ability to convey the significance, to support customers pre and post sale
  • Plan and execute college campuses travel to engage in discussions with influential faculty, developing long-term relationships, to turn them into advocates for SAGE resources with librarians
  • Develop and execute faculty outreach strategies in partnership with Library Sales Managers, Marketing, and customers in accordance with team priorities
  • Identify relevant faculty at targeted institutions through research, developing contact lists including Key Contacts and maintaining accurate records
  • Identify underserved accounts, develop and execute strategies to use Faculty Outreach to seed new opportunities or develop dormant opportunities
  • Work closely with Library Marketing and Library Sales Managers to ensure that faculty recommendations, faculty trials, and other faculty engagement are being appropriately leveraged, monitoring opportunities to ensure sales representatives pursue, in a timely manner, identified faculty leads that support the opportunity and increase the likelihood of opportunity closure
  • Work closely with sales partners and Library Engagement team to develop effective high-quality faculty-facing documents and resources to build and maintain a library of asynchronous resources that can be used at any stage of the sales process
  • Present to librarians, students, and faculty about SAGE resources at conferences, campuses, individual and group trainings, and invited speaker engagements that establish SAGE as a consultative partner
  • Develop internal-facing materials for Library Sales training on SAGE resources
  • Communicate feedback on resources to Library Sales Managers and the larger SAGE organization regularly and consistently
  • Conduct research to evolve our understanding of our buyer/user demographics, preferences and needs for SAGE resources, including interviews and focus groups

Qualifications & Education

  • Gain and maintain product and market knowledge for assigned product lines through editorial, author, marketing and customer communication and expert certification status
  • Manage project tasks, timelines, scheduling and deliverables with minimal supervision from manager
  • Work effectively with SAGE staff, including: Customer Service, Technical Support, Editorial staff, Marketing, and Sales colleagues
  • Understand how Faculty and Library customers function and how they purchase
  • Demonstrate knowledge of higher ed courses & terminology
  • Work on special projects as assigned
  • Interact professionally with customers and internally
  • Follow processes for including accurate information, in a consistent and timely manner, in the Library Sales Team’s Customer Relationship Management Software with minimal supervision from manager
  • Provide excellent customer service (promptly and professionally) when dealing with potential or existing customers by providing requested information in a timely manner
  • Work quickly and effectively to resolve customer issues by utilizing all resources available
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain customer relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively over the phone and online
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new products and processes quickly

Qualifications And Education

  • Working experience in academic publishing preferably across departments such as sales, marketing and editorial. Strong knowledge of SAGE academic library and faculty markets preferred.
  • Exceptional presentation skills, with strong written and oral communication abilities, and ability to conduct in-product training of technology products in person or via web conferencing tools to small and large diverse audiences
  • Ability to plan a strategy, communicate it effectively, and execute on it successfully across multiple accounts and stakeholders
  • Ability to work across departments to achieve goals
  • Ability to plan and execute effective campus travel and effective events, including logistics and all communications, as required
  • Ability to learn new resources and processes quickly
  • Innovative and strategic approach to all tasks
  • Strong analytic and critical thinking skills
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in PC environment and must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn quickly how to use additional applications/programs as requested.
  • Comfortable, adaptable and effective working in a rapidly changing business environment
  • Detail oriented with the ability to see how the details fit into the overall, bigger picture
  • Must be equally adept at working independently with minimal supervision as well as working within a team environment
  • Ethical and honest in all business relations
  • Experience working with SalesForce preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required
